Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Sparks Intense Debates Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a new playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but includes several notable changes:

  • Every squad includes only 8 real players, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions done by real players award full XP, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.

In short, the playlist delivers on its name: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for gamers seeking alternative methods to have fun with the title. However, if video games have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are mad.

Player Responses: From Fury to Praise

"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," says another. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," and someone else details everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who have lives and can't play this game all the time. Let them strike a balance," states another. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Concerns and Player Input

Despite the support, there are valid points to complain about the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase queue times more extended for different playlists due to the large amount of options in the game already. On a similar note, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, a major complaints is that a previous feature was meant to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the community compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. Another labels this addition as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?

If the development team has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
