Widely circulated footage seemed to capture Jones flashing his middle finger toward opposing supporters, though he insists he was actually signaling approval to Dallas supporters in attendance as his team clinched a 37-22 victory.
“That was unfortunate. It was essentially an interaction with our fans out in front of us,” Jones stated during a Tuesday interview. “There was a large group of Dallas supporters—not New York fans, Cowboys fans. The whole venue was filled with excitement for the Cowboys.”
He further emphasized that the signal was completely unintentional, occurring amid the elation following the team’s last score. “I just put up the wrong digit,” he noted. “It was inadvertently done. I’m not kidding. If you want to call it accidental, you can. However, it got corrected rapidly.”
League Precedent for Owner Penalties
This incident isn’t the first time an league proprietor has been penalized for inappropriate behavior. Recent examples include:
- Panthers proprietor Tepper was fined $300,000 for throwing a drink at fans in January 2024.
