Followers Urge Detainment of Man Who Touched Ariana Grande
Passionate fans of Ariana Grande are calling for that a individual who leaped a barrier and touched the celebrity during Thursday's Wicked: For Good launch be detained or removed from Singapore.
A viral footage reveals the individual from Australia pushing past photographers and lunging at Grande while the performers walked down a yellow carpet surrounded by onlookers.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo immediately wrested the surprised star away from Mr Wen, who was seen being escorted out of the event by security officers.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "let go after being arrested", though official papers showed that he was due to attend court on Friday morning. It is uncertain if he was charged.
Record of Incidents
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Troll Most Hated", has disrupted a performance. His Instagram account includes clips of him interrupting other celebrity events, including breaching the performance area at Katy Perry's Sydney show in June this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers concert in the area last winter.
"There needs to be action enforced against him as this is clearly a criminal offence," wrote an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" a different Instagram user remarked.
Supporters Express Concern Over Grande's Safety
Numerous fans criticized Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had spoken of dealing with PTSD after a suicide bomb attack at the finale of her spring 2017 concert in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and harming many.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" said a further response on Instagram.
Some attendees also criticised guards at the premiere for not being vigilant enough; while others called for online networks to block Mr Wen's uploads.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In footage circulating online, Grande seemed surprised when she was grabbed by the man. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen consoling her while Mr Wen was removed by staff.
Grande has remained silent on the event, and the premiere activities carried on uninterrupted.
Many of fans had assembled in a crowd of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good international premiere in a Singapore shopping center, including several who had waited for as long as many hours before it commenced.
The movie, to be released on the 21st of November, is the second of a two-film adaptation of the popular theatrical musical Wicked, which focuses on the surprising relationship between two very different sorceresses.
The production itself is a spin-off of the classic children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the character Glinda Glinda, was adorned in a rosé sparkling outfit at the premiere while Erivo, who acts as the wicked witch, wore a elegant ensemble embroidered with roses.
They were accompanied by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the highest-grossing movie of the previous year in the UK, and scored 10 award recognitions, earning two for best costume and set decoration.
