Manchester United Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months left on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering momentum.

Their recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
