Shock as Renowned South African DJ Shot Dead in the City of Johannesburg.
A popular South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the country's largest city Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a country battling persistent crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was attacked in the city centre on Tuesday afternoon.
Police said the 40-year-old media personality was accosted by a trio of assailants, with one shot at him before fleeing on foot.
The purpose behind the incident remains unclear and no one has been arrested are in custody, police said.
How It Happened
Authorities revealed that Stock was ambushed as he was exiting a location near the city center landmark.
He had devoted time at the site overseeing the implementation of safety equipment, which had been controversially occupied by unidentified individuals, according to reports.
"It is alleged the deceased was confronted by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they shot at him before running from the location on foot," a police statement said.
CCTV footage showed a man with dreadlocked hair and wearing what appeared to be a protective services outfit opening fire on Stock before making his escape.
The DJ sought to escape after he was shot but collapsed on the opposite side of the road.
Police added that Stock had an gun that was not fired and no items were stolen during the attack.
Crucial forensic evidence, like spent shells, were discovered at the crime scene.

Authorities have requested members of the public who may have witnessed the attack to assist with the investigation.
"We know they covered significant ground after the attack, and investigators have been following their trail to establish their location," stated a police chief.
Family and Public Reaction
His sister, a close relative, expressed the family was struggling to understand the tragedy.
"I am in shock. I am shattered," she said.
"It is clear he was a champion for numerous individuals. He spoke out bravely about topics not many people were willing to discuss. This is a devastating blow."
She requested the public to not sharing graphic images from the incident, noting this was an extremely painful time, especially for Stock's young family.

Stock was the presenter of Ngicel' iVisa, a reality show that premiered on a South African digital satellite entertainment channel.
Apart from his role as a presenter, Stock was engaged in various entrepreneurial pursuits, including security provision, providing high-level security services and securing prestigious gatherings across South Africa.
He was also said to be engaged in property management and participated in tenant removals.
