Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's natural for questions to be asked about his future following a further convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in 12 matches, marking the team's poorest streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got a lot of support from management,” the coach stated.
“It would be great to turn it around and earn three points obviously but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the team officials, Slot revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He added, “During our regular exchanges I perceive the belief. However I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Issues and Squad Reaction
The manager highlighted familiar shortcomings from his team in their Champions League loss, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.
“It is not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a spell of this nature with results this poor.”
He stated, “However we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And until it is removed, we’re always going to compete.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to the top, show everyone again the values of this club and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
