The former Liverpool manager says rejoining to manage Liverpool is theoretically possible.
Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, indicated that returning someday is something that could happen. Klopp, following a hugely successful nine-year spell that included a European Cup triumph and the Premier League crown for three decades, now holds roles as head of global soccer within the Red Bull organization and providing guidance with the German Football League.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
They secured the league title under Arne Slot, yet numerous supporters holding him in high esteem would embrace the idea that he might come back one day. During an extensive chat, he explained to Steven Bartlett: “I said I refuse to lead any other side in England. Therefore in case it's my former club...yeah. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“At 58 years old, that means the choice could be mine in a few years, it's uncertain. Must I choose now? If so, I wouldn't return. Fortunately, no such pressure exists. I'll wait and observe what the future brings.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Pressed on the specific conditions would have to unfold to bring him back to the dugout, Klopp admitted he was not instantly drawn to such a return. “I don’t even know exactly, I enjoy my current role,” he stated. “No longing for management; I avoid standing during downpours for lengthy sessions; I'm glad to skip interviews four times, three times a week or having 10-12 interviews weekly.
“The locker room isn't missed as a dressing room, yet sharing a meal alongside the squad talking freely, is pleasant. With many victories thus frequently a very good mood around the place. I still have the captain's chuckle vividly recalled to illustrate.”
Praise for His Successor
Klopp was full of praise of the current boss, praising him due to the changes which secured the championship in the previous season. They've been defeated a string of losses in all competitions post heavy investment, but he rubbished the suggestion that it might signal the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker such as Wirtz, you will all eat your words if spoken against. A remarkable prospect. The French striker, incredible player. It’s a really good thoughtfully assembled roster. Fans shouldn't fret over the club, they'll bounce back.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
The manager expressed deep feeling on the loss of the Portuguese star, whom he brought in during his tenure, and its impact for the team. The Portugal international lost his life in a car crash with his brother this past summer.
“How do you replace a person like him? This isn't just regarding his on-field talent, it’s the guy he was. It's hard to picture the squad missing him. I still cannot speak properly on this topic. A devastating blow for his teammates as well. Nobody at Liverpool would cite it as an excuse though it's a fact. You walk in a dressing room where his spirit remains. Dealing with that individually is difficult. Overwhelming.”
